How many people can tell you they’ve driven a locomotive? This thrilling Experience is being offered by DVLR to the public for the first time in 2018. For just five pounds, you really can drive, under supervision, a DVLR standard gauge diesel locomotive. On completion, you will receive a signed Certificate of Participation. What’s in a name? At the price. it’s a “snip”, because you benefit from it’s appealing name. We are pleased that we have been able to launch this unusual experience at a truly bargain price and it’s just because fiver happens to rhyme with driver. It’s cost is five pounds but as such a rare life experience, it’s value  is surely far higher, so come along and enjoy it for a fiver before some poet / wordsmith finds a different rhyme or alliterative name to fit its true worth. What drives you? That question we always ask children: “What do you want to be when you grow up?” The answer for many generations was often “an engine driver”. Few realised that desire, but for any who still wonder what it would be like, here we are for you. On the other hand, the thrill seekers may want to prove to themselves that they can control such a large machine or perhaps add driving a railway engine to one of their life experiences to tick off on their “bucket list”. Whatever drives you, we’re sure you will enjoy the thrilling experience of your driving a standard gauge DVLR diesel locomotive down the track here at DVLR. Thanks to York Land Rover Series 1 Club, the driver for fiver pioneers in the engine cab. York Land Rover Series 1 Club visited DVLR in 2017 and had a private event, a  “Driver for a Fiver day” with us. Afterwards, the Club members told us that they had had an absolutely fabulous time and gave very enthusiastic feedback and were keen to make it an annual event, so a date was agreed for a return visit. Some pictures that were taken are at  >                                        and there are more at  > The event had been enjoyed so much, DVLRS decided that it must open this experience to all to enjoy (subject to being 18 or over). Sessions have been made available during our scheduled Running Days and we are delighted that the sessions were immediately popular.  There is a limited number of Driver for Fiver sessions available during any one Running Day so if you wish to enjoy participating, please come early to register for a session to avoid disappointment. We will be adding some pictures from the 2018 sessions, in due course. Might some be of you? If you’ve enjoyed this new experience, please share your experience on tripadvisor …. click >>>>
