VOLUNTEERING

The Derwent Valley light railway is run completely by volunteers, all of whom put in an great effort in their own way, to keep the railway operating. We are always in need of more volunteers to help us continue with the work we are doing. Working parties take place every Saturday and Sunday throughout the year. Do you think that you would be able to spare a few hours on a weekend once or twice a month? Why don't you come down to the railway and see what we get up to!

As with any railway, we need lots of different people, and you don't have to have any special skills to come and work with us. Another pair of hands is always very useful. We need people to help us with jobs such as restoring rolling stock, track and signaling work, maintaining our locomotive fleet, as well as the obvious train drivers, train guard and other operational roles. Training is given for all jobs, and it is entirely up to you what you want to do. As we are only a small railway, everybody helps with everything, so you will never get stuck in the same department!

If you are unable to commit any spare time, you could still take out a membership to help the railway. You will receive a newsletter keeping you up to date with what is happening at the railway, and you will have free access to the railway when you visit.

Current Membership fees per year are as follows.
